The Astor Room at Kaufman Astoria Studios, which closed for renovations, has reopened with a new interior, menu, and identity. Its new name is a tribute to the late George Kaufman, the movie studio’s former chairman, who died in late February. The transformed restaurant pays homage to movie stars who frequented the studio in the 1920s and ’30s, including actors Rudolph Valentino and Groucho Marx. In Valentino’s honor, there’s 6-foot-long spaghetti on the menu that the man nicknamed the “Latin Lover” used to serve guests at parties (it’s made with pasta from the Bronx Italian specialty foods store Borgatti’s and tomato sauce). A New England clam chowder with animal crackers commemorates the Marx Brothers’ “Animal Crackers” movie.
